A deleted chapter from Resident Evil 3 Remake has surfaced through a former Capcom developer and it fills in a notable gap in the game's development history. Former Capcom developer Kazuhiro Aoyama revealed to IGN ME that RE3 Remake originally contained a chapter called The Last Escape.
The content would have taken Jill Valentine through the underground sewers of Raccoon City. It was a distinct setting from the final game's street-level and building-focused environments. The game was also known internally as Resident Evil Requiem during this development phase.
The cut came down to a shift in creative direction. Capcom moved away from producing a direct remake of the cancelled Resident Evil 1.5 and pivoted toward building entirely new story content instead. The Last Escape was a casualty of that pivot. The studio chose a streamlined narrative over preserving planned content from an earlier version of the project.
This is consistent with how Capcom has approached other franchise remakes. The goal has generally been reimagination rather than straight restoration and The Last Escape did not fit the direction the final game was heading.
Capcom has not commented publicly on Aoyama's disclosure. There is no indication whether the deleted chapter's assets still exist internally or whether there are any plans to revisit the content in any form. Fans who felt the 2020 release was shorter than expected now have a clearer picture of what was left behind.
Whether this surfaces as future DLC or remains a piece of development history is anyone's guess. For now it is one of the more interesting behind-the-scenes reveals the franchise has seen in years.
