The United Arab Emirates has become the first country in the world to cross a 70% artificial intelligence adoption rate. According to Microsoft’s AI Diffusion Report for the first quarter of 2026, 70.1% of the UAE’s working-age population now uses AI-powered tools and services, placing the country ahead of major economies including the United States and China.

The numbers reflect the UAE’s long-running push towards digital governance and technology-led growth. Over the past few years, the country has expanded investments in data centres, cloud infrastructure, smart city projects and digital public services.

Government services across the UAE already operate largely through online platforms. From banking and healthcare to transport and visa systems, residents rely heavily on digital tools in daily life. Analysts say that the ecosystem helped newer technologies gain faster acceptance across businesses and households.

AI Use Expands Beyond Workplaces

The report tracks the use of AI tools in offices, education, communication and daily online activity. Experts said adoption in the UAE has moved quickly beyond corporate workplaces into routine public use.

Retail firms, banks, hospitals and logistics companies have increased the use of AI-based systems over the past year. Businesses are using the technology for customer support, automation, fraud detection and data analysis.

The UAE government has also accelerated plans to integrate AI into public administration. Officials recently announced a program aimed at deploying agentic AI systems across nearly half of government operations within two years.

Global technology companies including Microsoft, Google and Amazon Web Services have expanded partnerships and infrastructure projects in the country as demand rises.

Debate Over Regulation and Jobs Continues

The rapid pace of adoption has also renewed conversations around data privacy, regulation and the impact of automation on jobs. Experts believe countries with strong digital infrastructure and clear technology policies are likely to lead the next phase of global AI growth. The UAE’s relatively small but highly connected population has allowed it to move faster than many larger economies.

Universities and research institutions in the country have also expanded specialized programs to train students in machine learning, robotics and related technologies. While many governments continue debating rules around artificial intelligence, the UAE appears focused on scaling deployment across sectors and attracting global investment into its growing technology ecosystem.
