

Artificial intelligence now plays a key role in the job search process. However, employers across the Middle East are facing an unexpected consequence - a surge in irrelevant applications. A recent survey found that about 40% of employers are rejecting AI-generated or AI-enhanced CVs. This comes as many resumes fail to accurately reflect candidates' qualifications and suitability for roles.
According to a survey conducted by recruitment firm Robert Walters, “36 percent of employers believe AI has resulted in too many applications, while 42 percent said they are receiving more irrelevant applications as jobseekers increasingly turn to AI-powered tools during the application process.”
The widespread availability of AI-powered tools has made it easier than ever for job seekers to create polished resumes, customized cover letters, and optimized job applications. While these tools improve efficiency for candidates, employers note that these are also contributing to the sudden surge in application numbers. Over one-third of employers reported receiving an excessive number of applications, while 42% said the number of irrelevant applications had increased.
It has become increasingly hard for hiring managers to distinguish quality candidates from perfectly crafted AI resumes. With advancements in AI technology, many resumes appear well-suited to job requirements but do not reflect applicants' actual abilities and qualifications.
According to industry insiders, when every resume is AI-optimized, recruiters have no choice but to take the time to check credentials and ensure candidates are real. With the emergence of AI in the recruitment process, companies are looking for alternative methods of candidate selection beyond the resume screening stage.
Skills-based assessments, structured tests, and more in-depth interviews have become increasingly popular as employers try to balance efficiency with human judgment. The key advice from recruiters is that artificial intelligence will help you project a positive image, but without honesty and proven abilities, there's no way to get hired.
