Apple has brought Dynamic Island to the Mac for the first time with its new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. The feature creates an interactive area on the display where users can access Live Activities, Spotlight and Siri AI while working on other apps.
The new MacBook Pro models also add touchscreens, letting users tap controls directly on the display. The 14-inch model starts at USD 2,899, while the 16-inch version is priced at USD 3,399 in the US. Apple began accepting pre-orders on October 28, and both models are set to launch on November 6.
Apple first introduced Dynamic Island on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max in September 2022. It replaced the traditional notch with an interactive area around the front camera. The feature displays alerts, notifications and ongoing activities.
On the new MacBook Pro, users can answer phone calls, control music playback and accept AirDrop requests through Dynamic Island. The interface also provides access to Spotlight and Siri AI. With the touchscreen, users can tap controls directly on the display, such as the pause button when listening to music. The new feature does not bring Face ID to the MacBook Pro. Apple continues to use Touch ID for authentication on both models. The laptops also include a 12-megapixel Center Stage camera.
Dynamic Island gives MacBook Pro users access to important updates and controls while they work in other applications. They can check ongoing activities and use supported features without switching away from their current tasks. The touchscreen adds another way to interact with these controls, allowing users to tap the display instead of relying only on traditional input methods.
