Apple released iOS 26.6, a security-focused update that fixes nearly 90 vulnerabilities affecting iPhones. Users now need to install the software as soon as possible to protect their devices from potential cyber threats. Unlike major iOS releases, iOS 26.6 focuses on strengthening system security, improving stability and fixing bugs.
The update addresses vulnerabilities across several core components, including the iPhone kernel, WebKit, networking frameworks and accessibility services. These flaws could have exposed users to attacks if left unpatched, making the latest update one of Apple's most significant security releases this year.
Apple has also introduced several major upgrades. The new version improves the indexing of the Spotlight Search index to get ready for iOS 27, which is to be released soon. It is supposed to speed up the process of indexing after users update to iOS 27.
Jake Moore, global cybersecurity advisor at ESET, further said, “We tend to think of photos as harmless, but in fact a phone has to process every image it receives. Although Apple hasn’t said any of these ImageIO flaws have actually been exploited, in iOS 26.6 they are rightly patching weaknesses before they become a potential attack vector — which is exactly what you want from a security update.”
The tech giant allows you to detect suspicious texts and report them. Apple brings another feature warning users about the maximum number of blocked contacts.
Most cybersecurity professionals advise updating security fixes immediately once released. However, Apple is yet to make any official announcements about the technical glitches. The new update paves the way for the new AI-based features of Siri for iOS 27.
However, the features are only for Apple Intelligence devices that support iOS 27. While these capabilities require Apple Intelligence devices, iOS 26.6 prepares compatible iPhones by improving system indexing in advance.
