Apple is working on a fresh set of design refinements for macOS 27. This comes as criticism around its Liquid Glass interface continues to rise. The tech giant is likely to improve readability and reduce visual strain.
The Liquid Glass interface will be a part of Apple’s wider software redesign inspired by visionOS. The feature will include reflective surfaces, translucent menus, layered windows, and floating interface elements.
Several users and developers complained that the interface made text difficult to read in certain conditions. Transparency effects in Finder Control Center and sidebars had earlier created visibility problems. They reduced contrast on both bright displays and older screen types.
Apple's internal teams describe the upgrade as a ‘slight redesign that will refine shadows and transparency effects without abandoning Liquid Glass entirely. The goal is to make the interface look the way Apple's design team originally intended.’
Reports suggest Apple now plans to tone down some of these effects in macOS 27. The company will be upgrading the following key areas:
Increase opacity levels
Improve text contrast
Refine shadow placement across system apps
Many users praised the futuristic appearance, while others raised usability concerns. Apple is also expected to simplify a few interface elements that users described as visually distracting. The changes appear designed to achieve a balance between aesthetic appeal and practical user experience. Apple has not officially confirmed the redesign tweaks yet.
Looking ahead, Apple will focus more on refinement than major visual overhauls in its upcoming software cycle. Other updates can also feature performance improvements, battery optimization, and deeper AI integration across apps and services.
Apple is developing advanced Safari functions and enhanced Siri features through its expanding AI research initiatives. The company is expected to unveil macOS 27 at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June 2026. The developer beta release will provide additional information about the interface changes that will be implemented.
