Daniel Kinahan was extradited from the UAE to Ireland and charged with directing a criminal organization. The 49-year-old appeared before Dublin’s Special Criminal Court on Sunday after being flown from Dubai under tight security.
He was taken directly to the court following his arrival in Ireland. The Special Criminal Court handles serious organized crime and terrorism cases. The court ordered his custody at Portlaoise Prison, and his next court appearance is scheduled for October 5.
Kinahan was apprehended in Dubai in April 2026 on an Irish arrest warrant due to suspected organized crime. The extradition of Kinahan represents a very important step in the long process that Ireland has been pursuing in order to prosecute him.
According to US authorities, “Kinahan is one of the three key players in the Kinahan Organized Crime Group, and Washington even announced a reward for providing information which would lead to the arrest and prosecution of the group's leadership.”
Kinahan has been living in Dubai for about ten years now, but he is known there because of his connection to promoting boxing. Irish and international authorities have linked the Kinahan organization to drug trafficking and money laundering.
US authorities connected the organization to a violent gang feud in Ireland. Investigators in Ireland, Britain, Spain and the United States have gathered evidence as part of investigations into the group’s alleged activities.
Kinahan was brought into Dublin by a government aircraft and taken to court amid heavy security arrangements. He appeared before the court without legal representation, claiming he could not get enough time to organize one due to the fact that he was alone in Dubai before extradition.
This extradition process has come as a result of increased legal cooperation between Ireland and the UAE. Kinahan’s extradition marks the end of international campaigns for years to get his arrest and bring him to Ireland.
