A husband’s unusually affectionate text messages became the unlikely starting point for a Dubai business. Zainab Imichi Alhassan and her best friend Sarah Curtis turned a private joke into Good Husband, a communication platform built for men who struggle to find the right words during difficult conversations with their partners.
The idea emerged when Alhassan’s husband began sending messages such as “Whatever you want, dear. All done, my darling”. The language was unusual enough for Alhassan to suspect he was joking with her.
According to a Gulf News report published on August 8, Curtis, who was with her at the time, asked whether he had started using an artificial intelligence chatbot. He had not. But the joke gave the two entrepreneurs an idea. Within 24 hours, they had built the first version of Good Husband.
According to the founders, the app does not substitute for real conversation but helps users communicate better while expressing the same feelings.
The venture is based on the experience of the founders in the field of communications. The founders previously founded POP Communications, a firm that works with over 200 clients from across Dubai. Their experience in public relations helped them understand how language influences the perception of a message.
The UAE contributed significantly to the founders’ personal and professional development. The connections, knowledge, and relationships were forged in that country. Now, they want to expand their business beyond Dubai. Alhassan believes that someday their platform could help millions of men become better communicators.
Also, they aspire to link their service to WhatsApp. However, the origin of the business venture is much more humble than that. It all began with a wife receiving too many romantic texts from her husband and sharing the joke with her best friend over a period of just one day.
