Abu Dhabi has set a clear goal; it wants to become one of the world's biggest centers for artificial intelligence. Instead of depending only on oil and gas, the UAE now puts billions of dollars into AI, cloud computing, and advanced technology. The country believes that AI will shape the next global economy, and it wants to stand at the front of that change.

The biggest step in this plan is Stargate UAE, a massive AI computing project that will give companies, researchers, and governments access to powerful computing systems. The project brings together some of the world's biggest technology companies, including OpenAI, Oracle, NVIDIA, Cisco, SoftBank, and Abu Dhabi-based G42. Together, they want to create one of the largest AI hubs outside the United States.

Will Run on Huge Computing Power

Stargate UAE represents much more than just another data center. It is a colossal campus dedicated to AI and will be home to some of the most advanced AI models worldwide. The project is set to kick off with the installation of 200 MW of AI computing capacity from 2026 onwards. Developers plan to gradually increase the volume of computing power available on-site to 1 GW.

The larger UAE–US AI Campus will ultimately boast 5 GW of computing capacity, making it the largest AI campus outside of the US. According to industry experts, a 1 GW AI cluster can accommodate hundreds of thousands of AI chips, allowing developers to create LLMs and operate vast quantities of data very swiftly.

This size qualifies Abu Dhabi to join the ranks of the largest AI infrastructure markets in the world.

Top Technology Companies Back the Project

The companies behind Stargate UAE each bring an important piece of the project.

OpenAI will help build advanced AI systems. Oracle will manage cloud infrastructure. NVIDIA will supply its latest Grace Blackwell GB300 AI systems, one of the most powerful AI platforms available today. Cisco will provide secure networking technology, while SoftBank will support the project through strategic investment.

This partnership gives Abu Dhabi access to world-class technology instead of building everything from scratch. It also shows that global AI companies see the UAE as a long-term technology partner.

Why Abu Dhabi Attracts Global AI Investment

Several reasons explain why technology companies chose Abu Dhabi.

The UAE offers stable policies, reliable electricity, modern digital infrastructure, and strong financial support. The government also created long-term AI strategies years before many other countries. That early decision now gives the country an advantage.

G42 has played a major role in this growth. The company has expanded into AI research, cloud services, healthcare technology, genomics, and high-performance computing. In 2024, Microsoft invested $1.5 billion in G42 and secured a seat on the company's board. That investment increased global confidence in Abu Dhabi's AI ambitions and strengthened technology ties between the UAE and the United States.

New US Policy Gives the Project a Major Boost

Another important development came in 2026 when the United States relaxed export rules for approved UAE organizations. The new policy allows companies such as G42 and Core42 to buy advanced AI chips with fewer licensing restrictions.

This decision also helps major American technology companies, including OpenAI, Oracle, Microsoft, Google, Apple, Amazon, and xAI, expand their AI work inside the UAE. The policy reflects stronger technology cooperation between Washington and Abu Dhabi and supports faster growth for Stargate UAE.

Billions of Dollars will Shape the Future

According to experts, Stargate UAE is expected to need more than $10 billion in investment alone, while a strategic 5GW AI hub will call for even bigger funding as new computer facilities will open over the years.

In addition to job creation in various industries including engineering, software development, cyber protection, cloud services, and AI research, the project benefits the UAE because companies can utilize advanced computing systems without having to build expensive applications of their own.

Another strategically important reason for attracting global enterprises to Abu Dhabi is its geographical position, meaning that the region would be able to provide services to billions of consumers all over the Middle East, Africa, South Asia, and parts of Europe without substantial network delays.

Challenges Remain

Even a project of this size faces important challenges.

A 1GW AI cluster will consume enormous amounts of electricity and require advanced cooling systems every day. The UAE must also protect sensitive AI infrastructure from cyber threats and maintain strong security standards.

Global governments also continue to watch the movement of advanced AI chips because they have strategic importance. The UAE must preserve strong relationships with international partners while it expands its AI capabilities.

Abu Dhabi Aims for Global AI Leadership

Stargate UAE is not just a gigantic technology scheme, but it also signifies Abu Dhabi's ambition to emerge as a global name in the field of AI. With numerous government backing, investment of millions of dollars, and strong technology alliances with the world's leading companies, the UAE enjoys a distinctive position in the global AI race.

Once the project is completed, Abu Dhabi will not only be home to one of the largest AI ventures, but it may also serve as an ideal hub for the entire Middle East, Africa, South Asia and beyond.
