Apple may finally be preparing a major overhaul for its smallest tablet. According to the latest reports, the next-generation iPad Mini is expected to arrive with an OLED display, marking the first time the compact tablet will move away from LCD technology. While Apple has already introduced OLED panels on its iPhones and the latest iPad Pro models, the iPad Mini has continued to rely on an LCD screen since its redesign in 2021. The upcoming upgrade could significantly improve the visual experience and position the device closer to Apple's premium tablet lineup.
Although Apple has not officially confirmed the launch timeline, industry reports suggest the OLED-equipped iPad Mini is under development, with several other iPad models also lined up for refreshes over the next year.
One of the main anticipated improvements for the upcoming iPad Mini is switching to OLED displays. In comparison with conventional LCDs, OLED displays provide darker blacks, more vivid colors, better contrast ratios, and greater efficiency in energy consumption because each of their pixels generates its own light. This will make the images more realistic when viewing movies, editing pictures, and gaming.
It is also noteworthy that switching to OLED display technology will align with Apple's efforts to increase the use of OLED across its products. But at the same time, some sources say the small device will still have a 60Hz refresh rate, not the ProMotion technology used in iPad Pro devices. This may disappoint some customers, but moving to OLED alone will still be a big step forward.
However, the upcoming update of the iPad Mini is not the only update that is scheduled for release soon. In particular, there are reports of the development of new editions of Apple tablets such as the regular iPad, iPad Air, and iPad Pro. It is assumed that the regular iPad will get an upgrade to its processor but retain its current design. Besides, the iPad Air can also receive OLED technology in its next version.
Apart from that, it seems that updates to iPad Pro and Apple Pencil are currently underway.
These anticipated hardware changes may end up costing consumers even more money. In a recent move, Apple has raised prices across its iPad range in certain regions, including the iPad Mini, iPad Air, iPad Pro, and the base iPad. Experts feel that due to the inclusion of OLED screens and higher costs of components, the next generation of the iPad Mini will become a premium product.
In the end, it is up to the buyer to decide whether the extra display screen and hardware upgrades justify the additional cost of Apple’s smallest tablet.

This rumor about an OLED iPad Mini comes at a time when there is an ongoing trend among Apple products. The firm seems to be upgrading its approach to product development by shifting its role in its offerings from a low-end tablet to a high-end, small-sized device that offers flagship capabilities without the large dimensions of the iPad Pro.
The demand for small-sized devices for activities like reading, gaming, taking notes, and content creation is increasing, making the iPad Mini a unique niche not yet covered by many competing firms. An OLED screen will make the device more attractive to professionals and frequent travelers.
