Apple may delay the standard iPhone 18 until spring 2027, according to reports. It is marking a possible change in the company’s traditional launch schedule. The move could place the regular model alongside the budget-focused iPhone 18E, while the future of the iPhone Air 2 remains uncertain.
Apple introduced the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and foldable iPhone Duo at its September event. The Pro models went on sale on September 18, while the iPhone Duo is expected to reach stores on October 23. Availability of the Pro models may vary by location and configuration, with some buyers facing delivery delays.
The standard iPhone 18 was absent from Apple's latest launch event. Industry observers expect the model to arrive in spring 2027, potentially as part of a broader shift towards separate autumn and spring launches.
“The base iPhone 18 model announcements are expected to be pushed into spring 2027. This staggered launch marks a notable change in Apple’s release cadence, with a strong emphasis on premiumization,” said David Naranjo, associate director of Counterpoint Research.
The reason for the reported delay has not been confirmed. Possible explanations include manufacturing constraints, memory shortages or Apple's decision to prioritize its premium devices. The company has not announced an official release date for the standard model. The iPhone Air 2 could also join the spring lineup if Apple decides to continue the Air series. However, no launch date has been confirmed for the device.
Apple’s entry-level iPhone 18E is also expected to launch in spring 2027. This follows Apple’s earlier pattern of releasing E-series models after its flagship phones. The iPhone 17E launched in March 2026, offering a possible timeline for the next model.
The iPhone 17E launched at USD 599, and its listed price later rose to USD 699. Apple has not announced the iPhone 18E’s price or specifications. If it launches in spring, Apple could release its premium phones in autumn and its more affordable models a few months later.
