The opening cinematic of the canceled Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link has surfaced online, giving fans their first detailed look at a project that was meant to bridge the gap between Kingdom Hearts 3 and the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 4.

The mobile title was officially canceled in 2025 after its development was discontinued. While the game never reached release, the newly leaked five-minute intro has reignited discussions within the Kingdom Hearts community, with fans attempting to decode its cryptic story and possible connection to the next mainline entry.

Mysterious Keyblade Wielders and Quadratum Take Center Stage

This leaked movie clip posted by kijuler on X shows a bunch of Keyblade masters who are wearing outfits similar to futuristic diving suits. This team is portrayed as combating a huge Heartless monster that is very similar to the one that was seen fighting Sora in past Kingdom Hearts 4 movie clips.

Once the fight ends, the darkness surrounding the Heartless dissipates, giving a clear view of Quadratum, the mysterious city that appeared in the last scene of Kingdom Hearts 3 and which is supposed to feature in Kingdom Hearts 4. No details have been provided about the group and its relation to Sora.

Leaked Footage Reportedly Came from an Old Beta Build

Based on online reports, the cinematic was pulled from an unreleased build that was accidentally made available during the game's closed beta in 2024. The cinematic ends with a return to Scala ad Caelum, where we can spot characters from other mobile games within the Kingdom Hearts series, such as Sigurd and Brain. This has led many people to believe that Missing-Link was meant to bring different stories together.

Fans Speculate About its Role in Kingdom Hearts 4

It has been known from the start that the games in the Kingdom Hearts series tend to contain deep and sometimes complicated stories, and the leak certainly adds to the mystery. While some think there might still be room for some aspects of Missing-Link within the Kingdom Hearts 4 game, even though the mobile game itself has been canceled, others have found a way to joke that the game itself has now become the ‘missing link’ of the series.

While Square Enix has said nothing regarding the leak yet, fans do not have to wait too long for any news from the company. More information on Kingdom Hearts 4 is expected to be revealed at the upcoming Disney event D23 happening on August 15, where the company has planned to host a special Kingdom Hearts presentation.
