Microsoft is reportedly preparing a major overhaul of its AI ecosystem through a new Copilot super app that could bring several of its AI products under one roof. The project, still under development, is aimed at solving one of the company's biggest AI challenges: fragmentation.
According to a Fortune report, the proposed app would combine services such as GitHub Copilot, Copilot Chat, Copilot Cowork, and an agentic workflow tool internally known as Autopilot. The initiative is reportedly being led by Jacob Andreou, Microsoft's recently appointed Head of Copilot.
The reported app is being developed around the slogan ‘Delivering one Copilot.’ The idea is straightforward. Users would access multiple Copilot services through a single interface rather than moving between separate applications and experiences.
The platform could also support Microsoft 365 Copilot accounts. An account toggle may allow users to switch between personal and work profiles without leaving the app.
Individual Copilot products are expected to remain available as standalone services. The super app would act as a central gateway rather than a replacement.
Microsoft entered the AI race early and moved quickly to roll out Copilot across its products. This strategy expanded the brand's reach across Windows, Microsoft 365, GitHub and enterprise software.
The approach also created a growing list of Copilot experiences that can be difficult for users to navigate. Different versions often serve different audiences, creating overlap in functionality and messaging.
A unified platform could help Microsoft present a clearer AI identity while making its products easier to discover and use.
The report suggests Microsoft may reference parts of the project during its upcoming Build developer conference. A formal unveiling is not expected at the event.
Microsoft is reportedly targeting a launch before the end of summer, though timelines could still shift as development continues.
The conference may also feature new proprietary AI models from Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman. These announcements would further highlight the company's efforts to strengthen its AI portfolio.
A Copilot super app would represent more than a product update. It would be an attempt to bring order to Microsoft's expanding AI ecosystem. However, success will depend on whether a single platform can make Microsoft's growing collection of AI tools feel connected, simple and useful for both consumers and enterprise users.
