Microsoft is adding new AI features to Teams, including better meeting tools, chat updates, and guest invitation changes. The company is introducing an AI Facilitator feature that can analyse meeting conversations and identify areas where participants may need more information.

The new updates have appeared on Microsoft’s admin portal for Microsoft 365 Enterprise customers. A wider rollout of these features is expected in the coming weeks.

AI to Support Meeting Discussions

The AI Facilitator is designed to monitor meeting conversations and detect situations where participants appear confused or need additional context. When it identifies a knowledge gap, the tool can reportedly generate responses using web search and share them directly in the meeting chat. The feature is not enabled by default.

Users will also get a separate Meeting AI toggle to turn off AI-based meeting functions. The AI Facilitator will be available for meeting organizers and participants. Guests invited to meetings will not have access to the feature.

Teams Expands New Sections

Microsoft is also extending AI-generated meeting notes to Teams Rooms on Windows. The feature was previously available only for scheduled online meetings. The updated capability will allow users to create real-time summaries during in-person meetings. It can capture key decisions and prepare action items through the Take notes option. Microsoft is expected to introduce this feature initially in August, with a broader rollout planned for October.

Teams is also changing how users manage conversations. The platform will add separate sections for muted chats and meeting chats. The new categories will automatically organize these conversations. This makes it easier for users to locate specific discussions without searching through the entire chat list. The update is aimed at reducing clutter in busy Teams accounts, especially for users handling multiple workplace conversations.

AI Features Grow in Teams Experience

Microsoft is also updating the guest invitation process in Teams. After the change, invitations will come from the organizer’s own email address instead of a no-reply email account. The company expects this update to complete its rollout by the end of the month.

Microsoft’s latest Teams updates show a wider push towards adding AI support across workplace communication tools. The company is focusing on meeting assistance, information sharing, and better organisation features while giving users control over AI settings.
