The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the UAE have announced an early spring break for all universities and schools. This announcement was made on March 4, 2026. Below is detailed information about the implications for students and the reasons behind this decision.

Early Spring Breaks in UAE

According to recent news, the UAE education authorities announced that the spring break will start from March 9, 2026, to March 22, 2026. The new decision is applicable to all private and government schools. This rule also applies to universities, including teaching staff, students, and administrative committees.

So, why were the spring holidays moved up? Currently, there has been a constant conflict between the US and Iran. These attacks are affecting each and every sector, and education is no exception. Due to current geopolitical conflicts and security concerns, the UAE education authorities have planned to start the spring holidays early.

However, as of now, there have been no official announcements for Indian schools. They are still awaiting clarity from their respective education authorities. This includes every Indian school across every country. According to the 2025–2026 academic calendar, the last day of class for some schools is set for March 13, 2026. The holidays start from March 16, 2026, and will end on March 27, 2026. New classes will start again from March 30, 2026.

Education Plans Ahead

Earlier, the UAE had extended the online/distance learning classes until March 6, 2026. This is because the education team continued to track the status of the current regional security. Initially, online classes were shifted from March 2, 2026, to March 4, 2026. This decision came just after the first day of the Iranian missile attacks, following an announcement made on February 28, 2026. Additionally, the Dubai Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) also supported the federal ministries' decision.

After Iran's missile and drone attacks on Gulf states, attending online classes has become a precautionary measure. Furthermore, due to the continuous regional conflicts in the UAE,  the tension between the US and Iran has escalated.
