Apple is developing its first foldable iPhone, which will feature an innovative design. The new model is likely to launch in September, alongside upcoming iPhone lineup. The foldable model will introduce Apple customers to their most significant hardware change in many years.
The main feature of the product is its ‘passport-style’ design. The phone is expected to fold like a book rather than flip vertically. The wider form factor results in more compact dimensions when it reaches its closed position.
According to reports, iPhone could measure under 10mm when folded and less than 5mm when open. The device belongs to the group of ultra-thin foldable devices. Apple is now focusing on designing a slim device that maintains its structural rigidity.
The leaks show that the internal display will have a size of approximately 7.8 inches. The outer display may sit near 5.5 inches. A wider aspect ratio provides users with a more authentic visual experience. The design will decrease black bars that show up during video playback. The design improves multitasking and reading comfort. The device will provide users with an experience that resembles using a compact tablet instead of a standard mobile phone.
A report by Digital Trends, citing tipster yeux1122, indicates, “ the upcoming iPhone could be even thinner at around 9.23mm when folded. However, the camera module is expected to add noticeable bulk, potentially increasing thickness to nearly 13mm in certain areas.”
Looking ahead, price estimates indicate that the new iPhone will cost more than $2,000.
The product positions Apple within the ultra-premium market segment. Apple's entry into the foldable market can create a major impact on that product category.
