NVIDIA recently confirmed that DLSS 5 will not remain exclusive to the GeForce RTX 50 Series. According to a TechPowerUp report, the company is working to bring its latest neural rendering technology to the previous-generation GeForce RTX 40 Series as well. These graphics cards are based on the Ada Lovelace architecture.
The tech giant is currently optimizing DLSS 5 for RTX 50 Series GPUs and is preparing model updates for the RTX 50 Series, which are expected later this fall. Once performance is completely tuned on the latest generation, NVIDIA plans to expand official support to RTX 40 Series cards.
The company has already achieved a five-fold performance gain since DLSS 5 was first announced in March, although further optimization is still expected.
Previous versions of DLSS primarily focused on improving gaming performance through technologies such as Super Resolution, Frame Generation, and Multi-Frame Generation. DLSS 5 takes a different approach by focusing on visual quality, using AI to improve lighting and material details in real time.
NVIDIA describes the technology as 3D-guided neural rendering. It uses the rendered frame along with information such as color and motion vectors to understand what is happening within a scene.
The technology can add more natural light scattering through skin, light transmission through hair and foliage, tighter contact shadows, and improved global illumination.
NVIDIA claims that DLSS 5 is designed to preserve the geometry and proportions created by game artists. AI, therefore, does not alter the structure of a character while making it appear more realistic.

NBA 2K27 is the first game to support DLSS 5, giving players their first official opportunity to experience NVIDIA’s new neural rendering technology.
At launch, the feature is available on GeForce RTX 50 Series desktop and laptop GPUs, as well as GeForce NOW Ultimate, where games are streamed using RTX 5080-powered cloud gaming rigs. RTX 40 Series owners will have to wait for NVIDIA’s upcoming optimizations before DLSS 5 officially reaches their graphics cards.
