OpenAI has started rolling out its ChatGPT Health feature to users in the US. This feature allows users to connect personal health information with the AI chatbot for more personalised health-related responses.

The feature was introduced earlier this year through a waitlist. It is now available to logged-in users aged 18 and above in the US through the web and iOS app. It supports Free, Go, Plus, and Pro subscription plans. Users outside the US will have to wait for a wider release.

Medical Data in One Place

ChatGPT Health allows users to link health information from sources such as Apple Health, supported US hospital records, One Medical, and Function Health. ChatGPT can use this information while answering health-related questions after user permission. The feature is designed to respond based on a user's own health records instead of relying only on general medical information.

OpenAI said that more than 300 million people ask ChatGPT health-related questions every week. Many users seek help understanding lab reports, medicines, doctor notes, and upcoming appointments. The company added that health information is often stored across multiple platforms, which makes it difficult for users to track their medical details in one place.

How does this Feature Work?

ChatGPT Health allows users to compare recent lab results with previous reports and understand changes over time. Users can also ask questions about how sleep patterns, exercise routines, and daily activities may influence their health. The company has warned that the tool is not a replacement for professional medical care.

“ChatGPT can still make mistakes and does not replace the care and judgment of qualified medical professionals. We encourage people to verify important information and discuss medical decisions with their healthcare provider,” OpenAI said.

Privacy Control and its Future

OpenAI highlighted that privacy protections are a key part of ChatGPT Health. The company stated that connected medical records, Apple Health data, and conversations using this information will not be used to train its AI models or deliver targeted advertisements. Users have control over when ChatGPT can access their health information. They can disconnect their accounts whenever they choose. OpenAI added that synced health data will be removed from its systems within 30 days after an account is deleted.

Eligible users can open the Health section in ChatGPT and connect their accounts. After syncing their information, they can ask health questions normally or type @Health in prompts to allow ChatGPT to use connected health data. OpenAI is moving into a personalised health assistance space, where AI tools are being used to help users organize and understand medical information.
