Qatar’s payment systems processed transactions worth QAR 100.429 billion in September 2026, a 19% rise from the same month last year, according to statistics released by the Qatar Central Bank (QCB). Transaction volumes grew faster, rising 25%.

The total number of transactions reached 77.512 million, up from 62.238 million in September 2025. The activity covered card payments, electronic transfers and instant mobile payment services.

Transfer Systems Still Carry Most of the Load

Transfer payment systems continued to account for the bulk of activity, making up 89% of transaction volume and 77% of total value. Card payment systems represented 11% of volume and 23% of value, the QCB figures show.

Cards: More Transactions, Small Gain in Value

Card transactions totaled 68.673 million in September 2026 and had an aggregate value of QAR 23.079 billion. The transaction volume increased by 19% on an annual basis, while the value was higher by 2%.

The number of point-of-sale (POS) transactions constituted the highest portion of card volume, with 50.290 million transactions, as compared to 42.425 million transactions in September 2025. The value was up to QAR 8.935 billion from QAR 8.464 billion.

E-commerce demonstrated the biggest increase in card transactions volume compared to the other two categories. E-commerce transactions were up to 13.184 million from 10.088 million transactions last year and their value was at QAR 4.361 billion from QAR 4.228 billion.

ATM transactions slipped in both volume and value. The number fell to 5.198 million from 5.355 million, while value declined to QAR 9.782 billion from QAR 9.883 billion.

Instant Payments See Sharp Jump

Qatar Mobile Payment (QMP), the country’s instant payment service, saw the value of transactions climb 48% to QAR 436.5 million, against QAR 294.6 million in the same month last year.

The QCB infographic put instant payment volume at 913,241, up 154% from 359,452 in September 2025. The service had 1.521 million registered wallets. The Fawran instant payment service had 4.035 million registered accounts, with a total value of QAR 7.102 billion across 4.243 million transactions in September.

The Tahweel system, used for transfers between bank accounts, recorded a 20% rise in value and a 104% rise in volume, reaching QAR 69.812 billion across 3.684 million transactions.

Are Qatar’s Payments Growing Faster in Number than in Value?

The data show transaction volumes grew faster than their monetary value across several channels, particularly instant payments and online commerce.

In other words, people are paying more often, not necessarily for more money. Transfer systems nevertheless remained the dominant part of Qatar’s payment activity.

Taken together, the figures give a snapshot of expanding payment activity, with growth across overall transactions, card usage and mobile transfers.
