Elon Musk has made a petition to remove Sam Altman and President Greg Brockman from OpenAI as part of an ongoing legal battle. This comes after the AI company transitions to a for-profit structure, resulting in a harsh response from the AI firm. In a court filing, Sam Altman accused Musk of looking for personal profit rather than the AI company's.

OpenAI Criticizes Musk

In a court filing, OpenAI explained, “The truth is that this case has always been about Elon generating more power and more money for what he wants. Having increasingly realized that his attempt to damage the nonprofit OpenAI Foundation rests on a baseless legal case, Elon is once again trying to change the narrative and save face as the trial approaches. His lawsuit remains nothing more than a harassment campaign that's driven by ego, jealousy, and a desire to slow down a competitor.”

The request is part of a broader case alleging that the founders abandoned their founding mission. Reportedly, the jury trial will begin later this month.

Musk also stated that his lawsuit aims to “unwind OpenAI’s for-profit conversion and restructuring.” He argued that restructuring would require leadership changes and that the key executives needed to be removed.

AI Company Tussel Continues

Responding to the move, OpenAI strongly criticized Musk, saying that the lawsuit was ‘baseless’ and accused him of disrupting the AI company’s operations. In a post on X, the tech giant argued that Musk's legal case stems from personal and financial interests rather than genuine concern for the organization.

The San Francisco-based tech company said, “Today, at the eleventh hour, Elon lodged a court filing pretending to change his tune about attacking the nonprofit OpenAI Foundation.”

Moreover, the dispute started from Musk’s lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft. He alleged that the company had shifted from its founding principles after receiving a major investment and had started planning a restructuring to increase profits.
