Samsung could introduce one of its biggest design changes yet with the Galaxy S27 Ultra. Newly leaked CAD renders show the flagship moving away from the individual camera rings used across recent Ultra models. Instead, the phone appears to feature a wide, raised camera plateau on the rear panel.
The change gives the Galaxy S27 Ultra a noticeably different appearance. It also brings the camera arrangement closer to the design language seen on recent iPhone Pro models. However, the rest of the handset appears to retain Samsung’s familiar boxy Ultra styling.
The renders reveal a series of camera components all housed in one horizontal module. In its Ultra devices, Samsung has featured distinct floating camera rings in previous iterations. This new design would definitely be an abrupt departure from that aesthetic.
The latest renders are based on CAD data believed to have been provided by OnLeaks and Android Headlines. Previously, Ice Universe and Sonny Dickson had also revealed images hinting at this very design change. Nevertheless, Samsung is yet to confirm this design update. Reportedly, Samsung could remove the dedicated 3x telephoto camera and feature a 5x periscope telephoto sensor. The phone is also tipped to retain a 200MP primary camera and a 50MP ultrawide sensor.
Removing one telephoto camera could free internal space for other components. It will simplify the rear camera arrangement. However, users who frequently shoot at 3x could lose dedicated optical coverage.
The Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to arrive in early 2027, with reports pointing towards a launch around January or February. Samsung has yet to confirm the phone, its specifications, or its final design.
If the leaked renders prove accurate, the Galaxy S27 Ultra will deliver a significant visual departure from its predecessors. The new camera plateau, possible Qi2 integration and revised camera setup could make Samsung’s next Ultra one of its most distinctive flagship redesigns in years.
