Apple started rolling out iOS 27 to compatible iPhone models, but some users may see iOS 26.7 listed under Software Update. This does not mean that iOS 26.7 is needed before installing the company’s latest major operating system.
Apple released iOS 26.7 as a separate update for users who want to remain on the iOS 26 software branch. The update focuses primarily on security and bug fixes, while iOS 27 brings a wider set of new features and system-level changes.
Apple is offering iOS 26.7 alongside iOS 27. This gives users a choice between staying on the existing software version with the latest security improvements or moving to the new operating system.
So the presence of iOS 26.7 under Software Update is not an issue. Those who are not interested in a complete software upgrade can install this small one and use iOS 26. Those who would like to try iOS 27 need to find another update option.
Open Settings on your iPhone and select General, followed by Software Update. If the device is compatible and the iOS 27 rollout is available, the iOS 27 upgrade option should appear on the update screen.
Apple officially released iOS 27 on September 14, 2026. iOS 27 is available for compatible iPhones, with the update distributed through the standard Software Update mechanism.
If iOS 27 does not appear immediately, users should not repeatedly install iOS 26.7 simply to force the upgrade. Software rollouts can take time to reach all devices, particularly around launch.
