Spotify is adding a new layer to collaborative playlists. The new feature, called Track Reactions, allows users to react to individual songs in shared playlists using emojis. Thus, it brings a new layer of engagement to Spotify’s playlist experience.
Spotify wrote in a new community post, “Spotify's new Track Reactions feature allows collaborators to react to songs in shared playlists using six emoji options. Users can choose from a heart, thumbs up, laughing face, headphones, fire, and pleading face emoji.”
The Track Reactions tool gives users six emoji options to react with. Heart, thumbs-up, laughing face, headphones, fire, or pleading face, pick one to react to a track. Reactions appear right beside the track so everyone in the playlist can see who reacted with what.
Reacting to a song in a playlist is straightforward. Users simply need to tap the reaction button next to the track and choose an emoji. As of now, the feature is only available in collaborative playlists. Only playlist owners and contributors can view or add reactions. This ensures that interactions remain within groups actively sharing music.
To encourage more engagement, Spotify will send notifications when connected users react to songs added by other collaborators. These notifications appear through Spotify’s messaging system, helping users stay engaged with playlist activity and music discovery
The feature makes collaborative playlists more interactive. Users can recognize their favorite songs, find songs that resonate with the crowd, and engage in discussions about music preferences. Track Reactions will initially be rolled out on Spotify to users who are 16 and older on both the Free and Premium plans.
The launch of Track Reactions represents Spotify’s attempt to integrate social networking elements into music streaming, making it easier for people to react to others song picks within playlists.
