Tekken 8 is releasing an emergency fix, in response to complaints the game has received after its 3.0 update. The Tekken 8 developer responded directly to the criticisms, explaining why it made the choices it did and what steps it plans to take moving forward to remedy the problems.
The most recent entry in the venerable combat series was released at the beginning of 2024, so Tekken 8's recent review bombing was unexpected. But players soon revealed their motivations.
After the Season 3 update was released, players accused Tekken 8 of making the same mistakes as before, focusing more on offensive enhancements than defensive ones. As a result, the game received hundreds of unfavorable ratings on Steam.
The topic of the Tekken 8 Version 3.0 launch and the reactions of the fans was addressed by the creators on March 25. They explained that the company had received over 700 complaints, most of which are of a negative nature, even if not related to reviewing the game on websites like Steam.
The changes that Version 3.0 of the game brought, according to its creators, were "intended to maintain the uniqueness of characters and reduce excessive rewards, especially those related to the Heat system." However, the creators acknowledged that this did not have the desired effect and that they were "studying all complaints."
On March 25, Tekken 8 will get an emergency patch, which will bring the game to version 3.00.01. The patch will fix critical issues and "unintended behaviors" in the game. The patch will mainly focus on the issues being faced by the player, which have received a "strong community response."
Version 3.01 will be released later in the spring, whereas version 3.00.02 will be released in mid-April. The game will also alter the behaviors causing excessive rewards, along with optimizing the performance of the Heat system.
The developers note that short-term adjustments will be implemented in a sequential manner, but "impact" fixes will be implemented gradually with each version update, so players should anticipate the changes coming in waves.
A similar situation occurred when this game reached Season 2 back in 2025, and gamers may be feeling a little nostalgic about this. In order to bring about a solution to these problems, emergency fixes were also made for Tekken 8 at this time.
As a result, the review score for this game on Steam plummeted, and Bandai Namco Games had to receive multiple direct reports about this. Regretfully, many gamers were disappointed with Tekken 8 and its too-violent gameplay in Season 2.
While the entire balance team for Tekken 8 was replaced due to the mess in Season 2 and this promise has been made for Season 3, one hopes that they will not repeat the same mistakes again.
That hope appears to have been dashed by the Season 3 premiere, though. Players will be able to determine if the game can move in the direction they desire once the next batch of fixes is finished.
