Dubai motorists could see some relief in September fuel bills as Brent crude fell from recent highs, though the size of any UAE price cut is still uncertain.

Brent crude extended its decline on August 27, falling to around USD 86.8 a barrel after reaching about USD 102 during July. The benchmark dropped roughly 9% over the past five days.

The recent decline improved the outlook for UAE fuel prices next month. A stable or moderately lower rate is possible if international oil prices continue to weaken.

However, Brent alone does not determine the price motorists pay at UAE fuel stations. Refined fuel benchmarks, transportation expenses and other operating costs also form part of the monthly pricing mechanism.

The UAE reviewed petrol and diesel prices each month since fuel price deregulation began in August 2015. The system links domestic rates with international market prices.

How Much Could Drivers Save in September?

UAE motorists currently pay AED 3.60 per liter for Super 98, AED 3.49 for Special 95, AED 3.41 for E-Plus 91 and AED 3.80 for diesel in August.

A 60-liter tank of Special 95 currently costs AED 209.40. If the September rate falls by 10 fils to AED 3.39, the same fill would cost AED 203.40, saving AED 6.

A 20-fils reduction to AED 3.29 would lower the cost to AED 197.40, giving motorists an AED 12 saving per 60-litre fill.

For an 80-liter tank, the savings would rise to AED 8 with a 10-fils reduction and AED 16 with a 20-fils cut.

These figures are illustrations and do not represent forecasts for September's official rates.

Hormuz Developments Could Influence Oil Markets

Diplomatic efforts involving Iran and Oman could help restore oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz. Qatar's prime minister is also expected to visit Iran as efforts continue to restart negotiations.

Physical oil flows are still below pre-conflict levels, keeping supply concerns in focus. OPEC+ has also agreed to raise September production quotas by 188,000 barrels per day.

Historical prices show that UAE petrol can return to the AED 3 range when global market conditions are softer. Special 95 was priced at AED 2.58 per liter in September 2025.

To reach AED this September, Special 95 would need to fall 49 fils from its current AED 3.49 rate. Super 98 would require a 60-fils reduction from AED 3.60.

The final September prices will depend on the international price averages considered by the UAE Fuel Price Committee, rather than Brent's latest single-day movement.
