Dubai-based technology startup MetisJean launched Jean, a sovereign AI operating system designed to help UAE businesses and government organizations run artificial intelligence within their own infrastructure. The company is targeting organizations that require tighter control over data, intellectual property and AI-driven decisions.
Unlike conventional enterprise AI services that rely heavily on externally hosted Large Language Models (LLMs), Jean is designed to operate inside an organization’s infrastructure. It can connect with internal applications, databases, email, documents, calendars and accounting systems, allowing businesses to use their own data when deploying AI.
MetisJean is prioritizing sectors where data residency and compliance requirements are particularly important. These include financial services, healthcare, energy and government organisations.
The company says Jean operates in both English and Arabic and can govern AI actions according to organizational policies and applicable regulations. It also maintains an audit trail designed to help businesses trace how decisions and actions were made.
MetisJean CEO and founder Alexander Haywood said the platform aims to provide a more transparent approach to AI decision-making. The company describes this approach as a ‘white box,’ contrasting it with the limited visibility businesses may have into externally hosted AI models.
The startup also claims that Jean can reduce repeated dependence on external LLMs. According to MetisJean, its benchmark testing recorded a 90% reduction in LLM token usage by replicating code and workflows from previous requests for repeat tasks.
Reportedly, the platform currently reduces power consumption for high-volume token workloads by close to 30%, with the company targeting further reductions through additional development.
The company plans to generate its revenue and growth from the UAE over the coming years, including from international businesses operating in the country. MetisJean also plans to expand its local workforce and strengthen its presence in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
