Meta has rolled out a new feature called ‘Insights’ which lets parents monitor their children's AI usage. The feature displays the latest search topics that teenagers have talked about with artificial intelligence, without exposing the details of their conversations. The new safety upgrade is important since teenagers now increasingly turn to AI for everything, from simple study questions to curious personal exploration.

Meta Introduces ‘Insights’ Safety Feature

The new feature will allow parents to monitor their children while maintaining their privacy rights. Parents can monitor their teenage children's AI usage patterns through the tool, which shows them the general topics their children searched for.

The system does not provide you with access to specific questions or the complete chat history. The system divides user behavior into three main categories. These include:

  • Educational activities

  • Health-related tasks

  • Personal lifestyle practices

Fatima, a Dubai resident and mother of a 14-year-old boy and 7-year-old girl, noted: “Sometimes it’s normal things like science or English, or help with presentations, but recently I saw him asking about words like ceasefire and what is happening between Iran, the US, and Israel.” The tool can help parents understand what their child is thinking about

The Privacy versus protection debate intensifies

Teenagers are now using AI tools at an increasing rate, which has reached unprecedented levels. Most teenagers in the present day use chatbots as part of their everyday activities. This trend has raised concerns about misinformation, emotional dependency on AI, and exposure to inappropriate content.

The growing reliance on AI tools in everyday life introduces new risks. Teenagers are increasingly turning to AI instead of traditional sources for information and advice. The change will affect how people learn, make choices, and interact with others. Experts suggest that the new feature by Meta comes as an intermediate option that balances between user protection and personal freedom
