Microsoft has confirmed that Clockwork Revolution will be launched only on Xbox Series X and Series S consoles. Microsoft is reshaping its gaming strategy by providing another major exclusive title to Xbox.
The announcement came during the June 2026 Xbox Games Showcase, where Microsoft shared a new look of the upcoming title. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said the company wants players to choose Xbox for ‘great games and experiences’ and added that some projects are being built specifically for the platform.
Soon after the showcase, Microsoft clarified that Clockwork Revolution is not a timed exclusive and will only be available on Xbox hardware. Gears of War: E-Day received the same exclusivity confirmation during the event.
The move signals another major change in Xbox’s approach under Sharma. Shortly after assuming the role, Sharma indicated that Xbox would revisit its stance on exclusives. Clockwork Revolution carries added importance in this strategy.
Unlike Gears of War, which already has a long-established fan base, Clockwork Revolution is a fresh IP from a studio known for previous successful titles. The project gives Microsoft a chance to position Xbox hardware around new exclusive content rather than relying only on existing franchises.
The game is scheduled for a day-one PC release. This decision continues Microsoft’s long-running Xbox Play Anywhere model, which has connected Xbox and PC ecosystems since 2016.
Online reaction to the announcement is divided. Some users welcomed the decision and argued that strong exclusives give players more reason to buy Xbox consoles. Others questioned whether Microsoft would continue with the strategy long term. Several users pointed to the company’s repeated policy changes over recent years.
A widely shared Reddit response described trusting Xbox to maintain exclusivity plans as ‘one of the worst bets’ in the gaming industry. The debate reflects wider uncertainty around Microsoft’s gaming direction.
Xbox has spent years expanding its cross-platform presence while also promising stronger support for console players. Clockwork Revolution is currently targeting a 2027 release window.
Microsoft has not announced an exact launch date. Industry watchers expect the company to share further details either during a future Xbox Developer Direct event or at next year’s Xbox Games Showcase.
