WhatsApp is all set to introduce a ‘spoiler’ feature, allowing users to hide messages partially before sending them. The update aims to give users more control over how their messages are viewed. Instead of displaying all text immediately, certain portions will remain concealed until the recipient actively chooses to reveal them.

WhatsApp Tests Spoiler Feature to Let Users Hide Messages

According to WABetaInfo, “WhatsApp is testing a feature that can blur selected messages before they are sent.”

The new update will allow users to label specific terms, sentences, or phrases as a potential spoiler. As a result, the selected part of the text will be blurred or hidden. To read the full text, just tap on the hidden part.

WhatsApp may also integrate the spoiler feature into its existing set of features: bold, italic, and strikethrough. Some experts suggest there might be a keyboard shortcut to hide specific text from users.

Current Limitations and Rollout

The incorporation of the spoiler option into WhatsApp comes as a step towards enhancing its privacy features. It will allow users to easily hide information related to movies or sports, or other content and will only be revealed upon request of other participants.

The new update is still under development and has yet to roll out to the public. There is also no official statement from WhatsApp about when they plan to launch.
