xAI has introduced a new Skills feature for its AI assistant Grok, expanding the chatbot’s role beyond regular conversations. The update lets users automate repeated tasks and save workflows that Grok can reuse across future chats.
The feature is now rolling out on web, iOS, and Android platforms. With Skills, Grok moves closer to functioning as a programmable AI workspace rather than a standard chat assistant.
The new feature allows users to create reusable workflows using natural-language prompts or slash commands. Once a workflow is saved, Grok can repeat the same task in later sessions without requiring users to type detailed prompts again.
Users can set Grok to summarise selected news updates, track specific X accounts, format content in a preferred writing style, or perform multi-step research tasks. Each Skill combines instructions, scripts, and linked resources into one reusable module.
xAI describes the feature as a form of ‘persistent expertise,’ giving Grok a more structured memory system focused on tasks and automation rather than only chat history.
The Skills feature is currently limited to SuperGrok and SuperGrok Heavy subscribers, signaling xAI’s growing focus on premium AI productivity tools.
The rollout comes alongside several recent Grok updates. These include Grok 4.3, which replaces older API models, and Grok Build, an agentic coding command-line tool currently in early beta testing for SuperGrok Heavy users.
xAI is also reportedly preparing to add support for Microsoft Office plugins to integrate Grok more deeply into professional workflows and workplace productivity tools.
The release is another important milestone for xAI, as Grok gains more advanced functionality. Earlier in 2025, the company introduced an interesting memory component that would store information about its users between conversations.
This is because the new Skills provide automation and the ability to execute workflows on top of the memory feature. This way, xAI makes Grok much more than just a conversational AI chatbot, appealing to people who prefer advanced AI solutions.
