Yango Group expanded its UAE SuperApp with a new powerbank rental service, giving users a way to charge their smartphones while on the move. Called Yango Power, the service was launched on October 7 in partnership with UAE-based powerbank-sharing company Ray.
The service connects Yango users to nearly 600 Ray powerbank stations across the UAE. The stations are located in shopping malls, restaurants, cafes, fitness centres and other public venues. This puts portable charging closer to places where users already spend time.
Yango is positioning the service as an extension of its existing digital ecosystem. Users do not need to download another application or create a separate account.
To rent a powerbank, users can scan the QR code displayed on a participating Ray station through the Yango app. They can then pay using their existing Yango account without entering their payment details again. The companies say the rental process can take less than eight seconds.
After collecting the portable charger, users can carry it while travelling and return it to a compatible station within Ray's UAE network. The model is designed to address situations where a low smartphone battery could disrupt navigation, ride bookings, communication or digital payments.
The addition of powerbank rentals broadens Yango's existing portfolio in the UAE. Its SuperApp already brings together services such as ride-hailing, delivery, navigation, public transport information and car rental.
Yango said the powerbank service fits its broader strategy of integrating everyday urban infrastructure into a single platform. Instead of moving between separate apps for different needs, users can access another service from an application they already use.
