The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide display has been in the news for quite some time. According to the latest leaks, the upcoming Galaxy Z could feature a complete redesign. The prototype units demonstrate that Samsung plans to discontinue its existing tall, narrow Fold design.

The new model features a narrower width when folded. The passport-style design of this device enables users to operate it more comfortably with one hand. The design reflects a growing market trend, as customers prefer wider foldable devices.

Samsung Tests a Wider Foldable Form

As reported by PCMag, citing leaker Sonny Dickson, the device represents Samsung's entry into the wide foldable market in April 2026.  The leak indicates, “Samsung plans to launch three foldables in 2026 instead of the usual two-device strategy. The lineup will include the traditional Galaxy Z Fold, the clamshell Galaxy Z Flip, and this new Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide. All three devices reportedly feature magnetic charging rings, suggesting a unified approach to Qi2 wireless charging across the entire foldable range.”

Experts suggest that the new aspect ratio may improve multitasking and video viewing. The apps will display better in landscape mode because it provides users with a more tablet-like experience. The current Fold models will have reduced black-bar visibility in apps due to their wider screen designs. The back panel contains a magnetic ring, which functions as a notable design element.

Expected Launch Timeline: An Overview

Looking ahead, Samsung will expand its foldable lineup in 2026. The latest ‘wide’ version is expected to be released together with the standard ‘fold and flip’ models. The addition positions Samsung to better compete in an increasingly crowded foldable market, where rivals are experimenting with new form factors.
