AMD has started a new marketing campaign that questions the gaming capabilities of the newly introduced MacBook Neo. The chipmaker argues that Ryzen-powered Windows laptops provide a more complete gaming experience. Thus, positioning compatibility as a key differentiator in the competitive consumer laptop market.
AMD stated in an official announcement, “While 15 of the top 20 PC games do not run on MacBook Neo natively, AMD systems give you access to massive game libraries.” Only 5 of those 20 titles will work on the Neo. AMD also noted that while emulation software can expand compatibility, Ryzen-powered systems require no workarounds.
AMD’s campaign compares the game support between Windows laptops and Apple’s latest budget-friendly notebook. The tech giant claims that only a small portion of the top PC games it evaluated can run natively on the MacBook Neo. But its Ryzen-based PCs can run those games without any emulation services or translation software.
In this case, the marketing strategy highlights one of Windows' long-standing advantages: broad game compatibility. AMD stresses the ability to utilize platforms like Steam, Epic Games Store, and PC Game Pass as a significant advantage.
By comparing Windows-based devices with Mac computers, the company highlights the hardware advantages of certain Ryzen-equipped laptops. The company also highlights larger storage options, touchscreen functionality, convertible form factors, and built-in HDMI and USB-A ports. According to AMD, these features make its Windows-based devices more versatile for users who need a single laptop for gaming, work, and creativity.
However, industry experts explained that this marketing strategy is more about software advantages than hardware superiority. Even though PC games offer a greater selection for Windows, budget-integrated graphics cards are not designed to deliver high-end gaming performance. Therefore, this comparison seems to be more about ecosystems than hardware capabilities.
