Apple launched Apple Pay in the Philippines, bringing its digital payment service to millions of eligible iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac users. The rollout is limited to many banking partners. Apple plans to expand support to additional financial institutions over time.
The launch marks another step in Apple's expansion across Southeast Asia. Thus, highlighting the growing demand for secure and convenient cashless payment options in the country.
Apple Pay is currently available to customers of UnionBank, GoTyme Bank, Metrobank, and China Bank. Customers who have credit or debit cards from any of these banks, which are qualified, can easily add these cards to the Wallet application and start using them right away.
Customers can pay at the outlets that accept NFC contactless payment technology. You can also use Apple Pay in certain applications and online using the Safari browser. Apple expects to have other banks/card issuers joining the platform soon.
Apple's initial rollout follows its strategy in other markets, where the company gradually adds banks and payment partners after launch. As more issuers come on board, Apple Pay could reach a larger segment of consumers and businesses across the Philippines.
For Apple users, the service offers a familiar payment experience that combines convenience with strong security features, making digital transactions faster both in stores and online.
