Anthropic aims to automate repetitive work with Claude through a new ‘Record a Skill’ feature. Instead of manually writing detailed instructions for every workflow, you can demonstrate how to complete a task and turn it into a reusable Skill.

The feature addresses one of the biggest challenges in AI automation: explaining a complex workflow clearly enough for an AI system to repeat it accurately. Claude Skills are designed to package instructions, workflows, reference material, and other resources for specialised tasks.

Anthropic Makes AI Automation Easier

You can start the Claude desktop app and click on 'Record a Skill' through the plus menu. A user can carry out the tasks on his/her computer as he/she does them while recording the entire process.

This process is not limited to just carrying out tasks. A user can describe the reason for choosing a certain process or skipping any step. It allows Claude to understand why something was done in a certain way, apart from what was done during the entire process.

After recording, Claude analyzes the process and turns it into a Skill.

Anthropic further explained, “ Skills are designed for specialised and repeatable workflows. Users can also create custom Skills with instructions, reference materials and scripts, depending on the complexity of the task.”

Users should review recorded Skills

While recording a workflow can simplify automation, users should review the resulting Skill before relying on it for important tasks. A demo may not contain all the exceptions and decisions made in the workflow. Users can edit the Skill by including more instructions, examples, and conditions.

Anthropic suggests that users should make each Skill deal with only one task. The feature could make AI automation more accessible to users who do not want to write complex instructions or create Skill files manually.
