Qatar Airways announced plans to connect Western Sydney International Airport with its Doha hub through direct passenger services. The airline will begin operations on December 15, 2027, making Western Sydney its seventh Australian gateway.

The new route will initially operate three return flights each week. Qatar Airways plans to raise the frequency to daily flights during 2028, reflecting its confidence in demand for travel between Western Sydney and international markets.

The service will use a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with 42 Qsuite Business Class seats and 312 Economy Class seats, giving travelers premium and value options on the long-haul route.

Flight Schedule and Bookings

Qatar Airways will operate the Doha–Western Sydney service on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Return flights from Western Sydney will depart on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Tickets will go on sale on December 19, 2026. The airline expects the route to provide convenient one-stop access through Hamad International Airport to destinations across Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

The announcement marks a significant step for Western Sydney International Airport as it builds its long-haul international network. It also gives travelers in Sydney’s western suburbs a closer alternative to existing airport options.

Wider Australian Expansion

The Western Sydney route forms part of Qatar Airways’ broader push in Australia. From December 9, 2026, the airline will increase Melbourne services from seven to 14 flights each week.

Qatar Airways will also resume daily flights to Canberra through Melbourne from the same date. These additions will expand capacity for business and leisure travelers while improving connections through Doha.

With Western Sydney included, Qatar Airways’ Australian network will cover Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra and Western Sydney. The airline views Australia as a key growth market in its global strategy. The announcement signals growing confidence in the airport’s ability to attract major international carriers.
