The UAE has temporarily stopped issuing new visas to nationals of three African countries affected by the recent Ebola outbreak. The countries are Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and South Sudan. The decision was announced by the country's emergency and immigration authorities as a safety measure. Officials said the move is aimed at protecting public health and reducing the risk of the virus entering the UAE. The authorities stressed that this is a precautionary step and will remain in place until the health situation improves.

New Travel Rules Come into Effect

The National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA) and the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICP) announced the additional precautionary measures on Friday (June 5, 2026). Under the new rules, travellers who have recently been in any of the three affected countries will face restrictions when entering the UAE. Officials said travellers should spend at least 21 days outside those countries before they can enter the UAE. The rule also applies to people arriving through transit routes.

The UAE had earlier advised its citizens to avoid non-essential travel to the affected countries. Residents already there were asked to stay alert and follow local health guidance. The government said it is closely watching developments and will continue to review the situation.

Public Health Remains the Main Focus

The UAE has often acted quickly during global health events. Officials say the latest measures are part of the country's wider effort to keep residents safe. Health authorities are working with international organisations and monitoring updates from affected regions. They said there is no cause for concern inside the UAE at this time, but preventive action is important.

Experts noted that Ebola is a serious disease, and early precautions can help reduce risks. That is why many countries continue to monitor outbreaks carefully and adjust travel policies when needed.

Looking Ahead

The visa suspension remains temporary. Authorities will review the outbreak and may update travel rules as the situation changes. The UAE said its priority is to protect public health while staying prepared for any developments. As global health officials work to contain the outbreak, the country will monitor the situation and take further steps if necessary.
