Elon Musk's social media platform X has recently conducted another round of layoffs. The latest job cut saw more than 20 employees terminated in the past few weeks. The job cuts have primarily affected non-technical roles which include positions in marketing and corporate operations. Reportedly, the engineering teams are largely untouched for the time being.

Mass Layoffs to Continue

The company experienced its most significant departure when Chief Marketing Officer Angela Zepeda joined the company in 2024. She left her position during the ongoing corporate restructuring. The company is undergoing leadership changes, which are reflected in her departure from the organization.

The layoffs come at a time when X is undergoing a significant transformation. The changes include the following:

  • The new plans for updating Musk’s ventures

  • Boosting the artificial intelligence firm xAI

  • Giving a makeover to its aerospace company, SpaceX

Experts suggest that Musk’s big plans of betting huge have led to overlapping roles. Thus, forcing the company to streamline operations and eliminate unnecessary positions.

The Future Roadmap

The SpaceX restructuring process connects with both its IPO preparation activities and its efforts to enhance financial performance and operational productivity. The company needed to shift its business focus due to advertising challenges and competition. This eventually resulted in restructuring its workforce.

The platform is developing new business opportunities by implementing the X Money payments service, which supports Musk's goal of creating an all-inclusive digital platform. Moreover, the latest round of layoffs demonstrates Musk's ongoing efforts to transform X into a more efficient, technology-driven organization. The new version of SpaceX and xAI prioritizes engineering work, artificial intelligence development, and product design.
