Google Play users in India reported problems accessing the platform on September 1. Reportedly, several users faced a 500 Internal Server Error. Others said they could not download or update applications through the Play Store.
The reports emerged despite users having working internet connections, suggesting that the problem may not be linked to individual devices or local networks. However, the disruption did not affect every Google Play user in the country.
The complaints extend beyond the initial server error. Reportedly, users faced trouble in downloading apps, installing updates, and accessing certain portions of their Google Play account. Downdetector reported nearly 450 issues in the app. However, it appears that the information available does not point to an overall shutdown of the platform in the country.
Users also faced server errors while accessing the Google Play Store through its website. According to one Reddit user, on Tuesday, they encountered a 500 error while accessing their account profile page, while the rest of the Play Store functions were accessible.
Google’s Play Status Dashboard currently lists an active incident that began at 8:54 AM UTC on September 1. The company says the incident affects Play Billing Purchases, Play Developer Subscriptions and In-App Purchases API, and Play Subscriptions Renewal and Management.
Users facing the 500 error can try again later while Google works on the disruption. If the problem persists after services recover, users can check their internet connection, restart the Play Store, and clear its cache.
For now, the issues are linked to a broader Google Play service disruption rather than a problem affecting individual devices.
