Dubai has reinforced its title as the ‘City of Gold’ in early 2026, navigating a historic global price rally that has seen yellow metal soar past $4,700 per ounce. As international markets face unprecedented volatility, the UAE has leveraged its strategic location and tax-efficient policies to maintain a dominant share of the global bullion trade.

This surge in activity is not just about rising prices; it marks a structural shift in how the region handles refining, institutional investment, and cross-border retail trade for the next decade.

Why People From Around the World Buy Gold in Dubai

Dubai is one of the most affordable places to trade gold as it offers 0% tax on raw gold. This has turned the famous Gold Souk into the most important market globally. Local prices for 24-karat gold have recently hit a record AED 623 per gram.

"The UAE Gold Market is projected to grow at a significant rate of 10.8% from 2026 to 2032," says a market report from 6Wresearch. Companies like Emirates Gold are now using new plans to keep the market steady even when global prices change.

The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) provides the buildings and vaults for this massive trade. Dubai has created a ‘safe haven’ by placing all the refineries in one place. Investors are shifting to buying heavy gold bars to protect their wealth from losing value in other countries.

What Is the 2026 Cost for Gold Traders and Travelers?

The 2026 Gold Trade rules have changed for the millions of Indian people living in the UAE. The previous limits on the ‘value’ of gold you can carry have been removed. The new rules are based only on the weight of the gold you bring on a plane.

According to the 2026 Customs Baggage Regulations reported by Gulf News, the limits are:

  • Women: Can carry 40 grams of gold jewelry without paying tax.

  • Men: Can carry 20 grams of gold jewelry without paying tax.

  • Children: Can carry up to 40 grams of gold jewelry.

Dubai is using new digital systems to track every piece of gold that is extracted from the mine and delivered to the shop. In the upcoming months, Dubai will likely lead the world in ‘Green Gold,’ which is sourced through sustainable methods and greatly reduces toxic chemical pollution.
