Artificial intelligence has become an essential part of everyday life, making a significant impact across various sectors. In the UAE, AI is now a strategic pillar and plays a crucial role in the nation's future, similar to energy.

The UAE is now focusing more on AI investments, especially on sovereign AI. The investments aim to build an infrastructure with regional data to create local AI models. The UAE is now focusing on AI investments, especially on sovereign AI. The investments aim to build an infrastructure with regional data to create local AI models. The plan also includes investing in the skills needed to run these AI infrastructures and models.

Sovereign AI at the Forefront

So, how will the sovereign AI help in any meaningful way, given the current conflict and unstable markets? The UAE uses its culture, data, and knowledge as core strategic assets that need to be developed and protected. Using artificial intelligence, the country aims to protect these sources. AI-powered safety can add an extra layer of security amid the current war.

Similarly, for businesses, building and scaling AI locally will allow them to turn their own data into intelligence and safety at scale. Thus, ensuring that safety structures are aligned with national priorities for economic diversification, resilience, and digital leadership.

The Strategy Ahead

G42, which is a UAE-based technology company, has showcased what sovereign AI can deliver in real life. By using NVIDIA’s Earth-2 platform together with local data,  the tech company has developed a generative AI weather forecasting system. This AI-powered platform can predict a wide range of meteorological events, including at high resolution, in the UAE.

This AI-powered climate modeling has the potential to help industries and governments protect critical infrastructure and supply chains, and strengthen their resilience to extreme weather. This will also help to improve public safety. Another key highlight of these models is that they can support the energy transition through renewable energy planning and more stable grids.

Such domain-specific AI reflects Abu Dhabi’s goal of becoming the world’s first AI-native government by 2027. Also, public services will be upgraded to AI-powered and cloud computing to deliver high-tech services, higher-skill jobs, and stronger governance.
