Apple plans a major update with iOS 27 that could change how QR codes work on iPhones. A new feature called ‘Create a Pass’ may allow any QR code to turn into a Wallet pass in seconds. This means tickets, entry codes, and membership cards can move into Apple Wallet without extra apps.
At present, Apple Wallet depends on companies to provide official support. Many small businesses do not offer this, so people often save screenshots or use other apps. The new update aims to fix this issue.
The new option will likely appear in the Wallet app under the ‘+’ button. This is where cards and passes are added now. Two choices may show up: create a pass manually or scan a QR code.
After a scan, the system will turn that code into a digital card. It will show details like name, color, and image. The pass will act like other Wallet items, making quick access easy. Lock screen display may also support it.
Apple also tests different styles for passes. These include event tickets, loyalty cards, and simple entry passes. Each style may have its own layout, which helps people tell them apart.
This update could solve a common problem. Many gyms, local shops, and small event organizers use QR codes but do not support Apple Wallet. With this change, people will not need special apps or paper copies. Everything can stay in one place.
It may also help reduce clutter on phones. Instead of saving many images, all passes will sit inside the Wallet in a clean format.
Recent data shows strong growth in mobile wallet use. Around 31% of consumers now use mobile wallets every week. In 2024, this number stood at 14%. Ease of use and speed remain the main reasons for this rise.
Apple Wallet already serves hundreds of millions of users worldwide. It works with transport systems, hotels, and even cars. This shows how fast the ecosystem continues to grow.
