Several buyers of Apple's new iPhone Duo have reported cracked inner displays shortly after the foldable phone went on sale. This issue raises questions about a possible hardware defect. The reports describe similar damage along the screen's central hinge line, with a section of pixels turning bright white.

The issue surfaced after the device launched on Friday, October 23, according to 9to5Mac. The publication said it had identified around 10 separate cases shared by owners online as of October 25. The full scale of the problem is not yet known, and there is no confirmation that the reported failures affect a wider batch of devices.

Some owners said their displays cracked during the initial setup process. Others reported discovering the damage soon after beginning to use the phone. The similarity between the cases has prompted speculation about a possible manufacturing fault.

Hinge Component Suspected in Display Damage

One theory circulating among users suggests that a misaligned hinge component could be pressing against the inner display. Such pressure may cause the screen to crack along the fold. However, this explanation has not been confirmed by Apple or established through an independent technical investigation.

Some users have also advised owners to avoid pressing the center of the inner screen when folding the phone shut. There is no verified evidence that this action causes the reported damage, and Apple has not issued specific handling guidance in response to the reports.

The response from retailers has varied. According to 9to5Mac, several affected customers who visited Apple Stores received replacement devices. Some buyers who purchased through mobile carriers faced more difficulty, with replacement stock reportedly unavailable in certain cases.

One customer also claimed that a carrier attributed the damage to a drop and said the repair would have to be paid for by the owner. The circumstances of that case have not been independently established.

The reports do not show how widespread the problem is among iPhone Duo owners. Many devices may be operating normally, while the available cases are too limited to establish a broader defect. 9to5Mac said it had contacted Apple for comment and would update its report if the company responded. No official explanation for the reported cracks was included in the report.
