Samsung May Use Chinese Display Suppliers to Reduce Rising Galaxy S Production Costs

Samsung Electronics is reviewing its supply chain for future Galaxy S smartphones. It may start sourcing some display panels from Chinese manufacturers. Until recently, Samsung has mostly relied on its own display division for flagship models. While no final decision has been made, the discussions show the company is looking for ways to reduce production costs.

Rising Supply Costs

The review comes as smartphone component prices continue to rise, especially for DRAM and NAND storage. The growing demand for AI hardware is making it harder and more expensive for companies to manage the supply of important components, which is why smartphone brands like Samsung are now looking for more cost-effective ways to keep production costs under control.

Samsung is now looking at ways to manage these costs while keeping its flagship phones competitively priced in global markets. Industry reports also say the company is exploring more flexible sourcing for OLED panels.

BOE Under Consideration

BOE Technology Group is among the companies being evaluated for future supply. Reports suggest it may supply display panels for the standard Galaxy S27 model, expected next year.

If this happens, Samsung Display will still remain the main supplier. BOE would only handle a limited portion of units. This indicates support from an additional supplier rather than a full change in strategy.

Gradual Change in Supply Network

Samsung has mostly depended on its own display division for Galaxy S flagship phones. This has been a long-standing structure in its hardware strategy. However, small changes are already visible.

CSOT is already supplying OLED touch panels for the Galaxy A57. This shows Samsung has already started working with external display makers in selected product lines.

Industry Pressure Behind the Move

Smartphone makers are balancing performance upgrades with rising production costs. At the same time, demand for AI-enabled devices is increasing hardware expenses across the industry.

In this situation, companies are rethinking how they source components to maintain price stability without reducing features. Samsung is also adjusting its approach in line with these market conditions.

Market View

Samsung has traditionally kept strong control over its display technology through Samsung Display. Even if it brings in outside suppliers, the change appears limited and careful. The company is likely testing flexibility while keeping quality control in-house. Chinese display makers like BOE are also expanding in the global OLED market. 

Overall, this appears to be a gradual change in Samsung’s supply chain strategy. The company is mainly trying to manage rising costs and market pressure, rather than making any big change in its technology plans.
