Nintendo revealed the return of the video game Star Fox during a new Nintendo Direct event. The game is set to release on the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 25 and is based on Star Fox 64.
The title follows Fox McCloud as he fights the scientist Andross to protect the Lylat system. Reports suggest the new title could be a cinematic reboot of the classic series.
The new Star Fox emphasizes on presentation and story development. The improvements in the game include full voice-acting, orchestral score, and mission briefings in between missions.
There are also more elaborately designed planets such as Corneria and Zones. Overall, the atmosphere of the game is cinematic rather than that of the old arcade version.
Main gameplay still involves air combat using the Arwings. The player will engage in air battles in different areas of the Lylat System. Some of the main aspects in the gameplay include barrel rolls, dodging during flight, boosting, braking, and alternative mission options.
Choosing different options in a mission can lead to different routes. In addition, there is a challenge mode that features alternative routes.
A new 4-vs-4 Battle Mode is one of the biggest additions. Players can join either Team Star Fox or Team Star Wolf.
Zone control battles on Corneria
Energy collection missions on Fichina
Cargo capture fights in Sector Y
Matches can be played online or locally, making multiplayer a core part of the experience.
The game employs Switch 2 hardware with input and social capabilities. The Joy-Con 2 enables mouse-based aim for enhanced control.
Players may even change between flying and shooting functions while playing. GameChat includes character avatars, AR filters, and live interaction features.
