Is PlayStation 6 coming anytime soon? Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki has finally dropped the major update and it’s not good news for gaming enthusiasts. Totoki stated that the company still needs to determine both the release date and the cost of its PlayStation 6. Sony must protect its market position amid rising semiconductor prices that are affecting the global technology industry.

Sony Keeps PS6 Launch: The Plan

During Sony’s recent earnings briefing, Totoki said, “The company is carefully evaluating market conditions before committing to a release window for its next-generation gaming console. Hardware pricing remains a major concern due to supply-side pressures and increasing AI-driven demand for memory components.”

The gaming industry experiences ongoing price fluctuations in its essential components, including DRAM and other semiconductors. Totoki said Sony is watching how component price shifts feed through to production costs and what ends up on the shelf. The company is also trying to avoid repeating the supply shortages and pricing problems that hurt sales during the pandemic.

PS6 Expected Timeline

The PlayStation 5 system continues to generate significant income for Sony.  The company continues to develop its PS5 ecosystem through new software solutions, subscription services, and hardware upgrades until it transitions to its upcoming unified platform.

Sony has confirmed that the PS6 project has entered internal development, but the company retains the ability to change its release schedule. However, Sony has not officially announced the PS6 launch yet.
