Sony has announced the PlayStation Plus monthly games for July 2026. The company is giving subscribers access to three titles, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, For the King 2, and CrossCode. It also shared a major change in its gaming plans, saying it will stop making physical discs for new PlayStation games from January 2028.
The PlayStation Plus monthly games are part of a regular update that happens at the start of every month. Sony shares new titles, and subscribers can add them to their library and play them while their subscription is active.
For July 2026, Sony has confirmed three games available from July 7 to August 3. The lineup includes action and role-playing games. The main game for this month is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, available as a Cross-Gen Bundle for PS5 and PS4. This is the 2023 version, not the older 2011 game with the same name.
The game received mixed feedback at launch, but it still offers a strong multiplayer experience. It also marked a change for Activision’s Modern Warfare series, as the company moved away from yearly releases.
The second title, For the King 2, builds on the 2023 PC release of the tactical role-playing game. It combines turn-based combat with roguelite systems and procedurally generated maps, offering varied gameplay in each session. The game also supports cooperative play.
The third title, CrossCode, is an action RPG inspired by classic 16-bit era games. It features retro-style visuals, fast combat mechanics, puzzle-based dungeons, and structured character progression.
Along with the monthly game lineup, Sony confirmed it will stop producing physical discs for new PlayStation games starting in January 2028. After this change, new games will be available only digitally through the PlayStation Store and select retail partners. The company stated that this rule will apply only to games released after that date. Physical discs for existing games and titles releasing before the cutoff will still be available.
Sony added that more players now prefer digital downloads instead of discs. It also confirmed that this shift matches how most users already buy and play games. This decision marks a major change in PlayStation’s long-term strategy, with a stronger focus on digital gaming.
