The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) opened its Financial Health Innovation Challenge on October 1, 2026, inviting organizations worldwide. The initiative seeks market-ready solutions that strengthen financial literacy, improve savings habits and support small business growth across the UAE. Applications close November 30, 2026, at 11:30 p.m. Gulf Standard Time.
The challenge brings together the CBUAE, Alliance for Innovative Regulation (AIR), Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth and Emirates Institute of Finance. It aims to help individuals manage everyday expenses, prepare for financial emergencies and make confident decisions. Selected applicants can also explore pilot opportunities with participating UAE-licensed financial institutions.
The Financial Health Innovation Challenge focuses on four priorities. These include day-to-day money management, emergency savings and insurance, long-term financial planning, and informed financial decisions. Eligible solutions may address payments, remittances, budgeting, retirement savings, fraud prevention or financial education.
The initiative also targets underserved groups, including low-income earners, Emirati families, young people, women and older residents. People of Determination and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) also feature among its intended beneficiaries.
Startups, companies and other organizations in the UAE and internationally can apply with working, market-ready solutions. Individual applicants with ideas alone do not qualify, and early-stage prototypes fall outside the challenge requirements.
Applicants must demonstrate real-world testing or use and show their solutions can operate within the UAE. They must also meet local data protection, information security and regulatory requirements. Applications must be submitted in English, while an existing UAE banking partnership is not mandatory.
Shortlisted organizations can receive expert guidance, readiness support and introductions to participating financial institutions. Up to seven shortlisted applicants may receive AED 30,000 each as a participation grant.
Applicants approved for pilot development may qualify for an additional AED 90,000. However, selection does not guarantee pilot approval, procurement opportunities or commercial contracts.
Applications opened on October 1, 2026, and close on November 30. Organizers plan to review applications, match organizations with financial institutions and design pilots between December 2026 and March 2027. Pilot implementation and outcome sharing are scheduled for April through August 2027, although organizers may adjust the timeline.
The challenge aims to move practical financial innovations beyond concepts and strengthen financial resilience across the UAE.
