Global Crypto Users
Crypto ownership has expanded into a global financial phenomenon, but there is no single official database tracking individual users. Current estimates differ by methodology and source. A September 2026 analysis using multiple datasets estimates that India, China and the United States have the largest crypto-owner populations worldwide.
India Leads the List
India ranks first by estimated number of crypto owners, with about 104.4 million people holding digital assets. The estimate represents roughly 7.2% of the country’s population. India also ranked first in Chainalysis’ 2025 Global Crypto Adoption Index, which measures grassroots cryptocurrency activity.
China and the US
China ranks second with an estimated 63.45 million crypto owners, followed by the United States with around 56.1 million. Ownership estimates should be interpreted cautiously because crypto activity is difficult to measure consistently, particularly where regulatory restrictions or alternative platforms affect available data.
Brazil And Philippines
Brazil has approximately 27.13 million estimated crypto owners, while the Philippines follows with around 26.55 million. Vietnam ranks sixth with nearly 21.89 million owners. These markets also feature prominently in broader crypto-adoption measurements based on transaction activity and usage across cryptocurrency services.
Pakistan to Iran
Pakistan has an estimated 16.52 million crypto owners, followed by Nigeria (14.63 million) and Indonesia (about 14 million). Iran completes the top 10 with an estimated 12.6 million owners. These figures highlight crypto’s substantial presence across emerging markets.
Ownership Vs Adoption
The number of owners is different from crypto adoption or transaction volume. Chainalysis ranked India, the US, Pakistan, Vietnam and Brazil highest in its 2025 adoption index. TRM Labs, using Q1 2026 retail transaction volume, ranked the US first, followed by South Korea, Russia, India and Brazil.
Why Rankings Vary
Crypto rankings vary because researchers use different datasets, including surveys, exchange activity, blockchain transactions and internet-user estimates. A September 2026 analysis estimates global ownership at more than 560 million, while another market-sizing estimate reaches about 770 million. Therefore, treat country figures as estimates, not exact counts.
