IKEA KLIPPBOK is designed to detect water leaks in the home. Its alarm sounds when the sensor comes into contact with water, helping users identify leaks early. It can be placed near sinks, dishwashers, washing machines and other areas where unexpected water accumulation could occur.
Matter Compatibility
KLIPPBOK uses the Matter smart-home standard, allowing it to work with compatible ecosystems beyond IKEA’s own platform. IKEA says the sensor can integrate with systems from Amazon, Apple, Google, Homey and Samsung. This interoperability can make it easier to incorporate leak detection into an existing connected-home setup.
Works Over Thread
The sensor uses Matter over Thread for smart-home connectivity. To control it through a smartphone, users need a compatible Thread Border Router, such as IKEA’s DIRIGERA hub. This setup allows KLIPPBOK to communicate with compatible smart-home systems while supporting Matter-based device integration.
Smartphone Notifications
KLIPPBOK can provide more than its built-in audible warning when connected to a compatible hub. IKEA says the sensor can send information about detected water leaks to a smartphone. This could help users become aware of potential leaks even when they are away from the sensor’s physical location.
Compact Design
The KLIPPBOK has a compact ABS-plastic body measuring approximately 70mm long, 40mm wide and 17mm high. Its small footprint allows it to fit beneath sinks, near appliances and in other tight spaces. These locations can help monitor areas where leaks may otherwise remain unnoticed.
Two AAA Batteries
KLIPPBOK operates using two AAA batteries, which are sold separately. IKEA recommends its LADDA rechargeable AAA batteries. The sensor can also operate as a standalone device without a smart-home system, with the built-in alarm activating when both detection contacts come into contact with water.
Affordable Smart-Home Device
IKEA positions KLIPPBOK as a relatively affordable addition to a connected home. Its US listing currently shows a price of $11.99, while prices vary by market. The sensor combines local leak detection with Matter connectivity, offering a compact way to monitor potential water-related problems.
